Jim Freschi

Welcome to jimfreschi.com

I know this website leaves a lot to be desired as far as design, layout and graphics.  It's not what I really would like but it's the best I can do right now without spending a bunch of time and money.

This could be a blog but why would you care about my opinions or what I find interesting?  For more photos see my Flickr page by simply clicking the link below.

I'm Going Home

It was nice to visit Chicago

but it was no pleasure cruise.  I had to work but

I was able to visit one of my old neighborhoods

(the DePaul University main campus - Fullerton & North Kenmore).  I was disappointed

to find that the shrine to the band "Chicago Transit Authority" - the hot dog stand under the "EL"

was no longer there but the neighborhood was thriving and looked great.

We had a great walk by the lake and visited various other places that have meaning for me.  Can't wait to get back home!

God Bless His Soul

Our beloved Sebastian in now at rest, to suffer no more.

We loved him so and it was so very hard to say goodbye to him.  But, he is now at rest.

He was a very good cat.

God rest his soul.

Because of work, we are now in Chicago.

We have a view of lake Michigan.

We are in Streeterville or just south of it

but north of the river.  It's raining pretty hard and the wind is strong.

Good night.

The Harris Bank Building, the Wrigley and Smurfit Stone buildng, Grant Park,

Michigan Ave, the Lake,

Wacker Drive, it's all here.

Don't forget the Wabash Inn, Billy Goat Tavern, Wacker and Michigan and

the Palmer House.

Hello to all you friends  out here.

Winter in June
Saturday was a blast.  I can't reveal why but trust me, it was a terrific day.  The rest of the weekend was marred by cold weather and a problem with one of our rental properties.  The problem caused some significant stress but we solved it.  So everything is great now, yea!

This website is a work in process.  I'm still trying out different website building applications.

I had a photo of Calvary Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.  There is no reason why I put this particular photo on the website other than I think it's an OK photo and I am experimenting with putting photos on the site using this program.  The cemetery itself is very nice and some of the original founders of St. Louis are buried there but the surrounding area is like a war zone so watch out when your trying to get there and get back.

The recovered remains of the old 35W Bridge (which collapsed on August 1, 2007) are arranged purposefully on a bank of the Mississippi, as if to reconstruct the structure of the undercarriage.  This was most likely done for forensic purposes but I don't know.  Do you know?

These twisted, mangled pieces of steel that once served as the support of a concrete highway have been there on the bank for about a year now.  I see them every morning when I cross the Washington Avenue bridge on my way to work.  If you are sitting high in a bus, traveling west across the Washington Avenue bridge, you can't miss these remains as you look out over the river to your right (north).

What were you doing at the exact time of the collapse of the 35W bridge?  I was waiting for my bus to go home from work.
